city hall meeting cell tower regulationCity Hall putting cell tower regulation on their priority list?

We met this week with Commissioner Fritz and presented constructive solutions to the cell tower concern in a document called 12 Cell Tower Regulation Amendments (PDF) for the City of Portland. The document was drafted by MT. Tabor FACTS, and residents from Woodstock Neighborhood Association, Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association and Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Association.

Here are some notes (PDF) by Elise from the 30 min. meeting, we have been invited back for a follow up Nov 1st. 2010 Stay tuned…

KATU news covers the City of Portland’s belief that their “hands are tied”

The real question here not explored in this segment is why have four other cities in the United States (View our new Google Map showing new cell tower regulation) taken the power back from telecoms like Clearwire at the local level, despite the supposed mandate of the FCC? Why are there now two legal precedents showing that it is possible for City council to take back public land use authority and that there is a causal link of EMF radiation to negative health effects? Seems that we need some stronger leadership in Portland. And yes thank you, we are talking to State legislators to impact change at the federal level- it is on our roadmap…

Mt. Tabor Middle School PTA passed a resolution this month opposing the building of a Clearwire/Sprint cell tower adjacent to the school playground.

We formed this volunteer group to support the PTA and take action. We have kids in the school who will be at risk from being bombarded with radiation (electro-smog) from the Clearwire wireless cell tower (to be installed above or underground).

The scoop:

We are concerned that our kids are going to be exposed to harmful (invisible) electro-magnetic radiation from the tower. Many Portland schools (and around the US and the world) have faced or are facing this current problem. Schools, districts and cities are now starting to push back against cell towers (wireless technologies and inappropriate cell phone use). There is a FCC law that lets Telecoms like Clearwire/Sprint do this and that is being challenged too. By taking action parents and kids have made their voices heard. We CAN stop the tower at Tabor!
